ABOUT the Author

R. J. Delainey received degrees in history and education in 1995 and 1998 respectively from the University of Saskatchewan. He began his teaching career with the Saskatoon Catholic system; however, he has spent the better part of the last decade teaching history, law and computers. Although he feels comfortable working with information technology, he considers himself first and foremost a teacher of history. In 2008, Richard was a top ten finalist for a Governor General's Award for Teaching Canadian History.

In 2013 Rick's senior level Canadian history class won a regional award (for Western Canada) in a historical fiction contest hosted by Historica; and in 2014 and 2015 he completed his training qualifying him to teach both history and the theory of knowledge at the International Baccalaureate level. Richard reads widely in areas including history, politics, religion, economics and science. He has a passion for ideas and loves to teach students critical thinking and help young people develop their intellectual gifts. He contributes to and maintains the blog and podcast Peasants & Emperors (a site designed to help promote an appreciation for democratic values).

He is married and has three wonderful sons and a cat.
